The band Everything is Dirty, who tweeted ad nauseam that the problem with the SF music scene “isn’t lack of talent, it’s lack of press.” Really!? We don’t tell you to play more shows so we have more shit to cover. There’s a lot of hard working local and national journalists in the Bay and if you’re act merits press, you’ll get it (should really go without saying.) Maybe try hiring a publicist? At any rate, here’s your press….probably not the kind you wanted though.
Berkeley’s new UC Theater has an Education program (Concert Careers Pathway Program) that teaches high school students technical, creative and business aspects of running a venue and putting on shows. They hold workshops and even have an intern-to-hire program. It’s not impossible to do what you love for a living and a lot of kids want to work in music. The not-for-profit UC Theater is making this possible for some. Shouts out.
SF Rec and Parks and the way they’re “handling” the garbage situation in Dolores Park. There’s only trash cans on the edges of the park by the sidewalks, which makes it impractical for common park-goers to haul their trash out and a lot of people just don’t get it. How about placing larger bins somewhere in the middle of the park and then surrounding them with local art so they look nice? A multi-million dollar renovation should make it easier to dump trash and ultimately #LoveDolores.
Gavin Newsom for his consistent stances on gun control and support in wake of the Orlando tragedy. Our Lt. Governor (who eerily resembles Thomas Carcetti from The Wire) supports taking the NRA to task and has done his best to publicly support Representative John Lewis’ sit-in on Congress. He’s openly denounced Donald Trump numerous times and we miss his integrity in the Mayor’s office.
