Photo Essay: 2016 Rio Olympics

0

The vibes at the 2016 Rio Olympics were incredibly high. Although I’d imagine the energy to be electric at any Olympics I feel like there was something special about them being in Brazil. The soul of the city has a jovial, youthful feel that seems to prioritize having as much fun as possible in the present moment.

Before I went down there I got all sorts of warnings about the Zika virus and the favelas (slums), but my actual experience of the place was full of ease. The vibrant culture, from the colorful outfits and murals, to the constant dancing in the streets was really uplifting.

These photos were taken outside of the women’s basketball gold medal game. The energy was less about winning and more about connecting. Everyone there was excited to drop in, celebrate their culture, and share their pride. It was a celebration of the beauty of diversity. People of all shades from different parts of the world coming together to be stoked on life.

Viva Brasil!
